The '''College of Southern Maryland (CSM)''' (formerly Charles County Community College), founded in [[La Plata, Maryland]], is a public, regional [[community college]], which serves [[Southern Maryland]] through its campuses and training centers in [[Charles County, Maryland|Charles County]], [[St. Mary's County, Maryland|St. Mary's County]], and [[Calvert County, Maryland|Calvert County]].

==History==
In September 1958, Charles County Junior College, the predecessor to today's CSM, commenced evening at La Plata High School<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/50th/past/</ref>. Therefore, CSM is celebrating its fifty anniversary with a series of events throughout 2008<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/50th/NewsEvents/</ref>. Soon after, the college commenced an [[vocational education|apprenticeship program]] in 1960<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/about/history.html</ref>. In 1980, the Community College at Calvert County was established, which later moved to its current location with its current building on J.W. == Intercollegiate Sports ==
The College of Southern Maryland currently has 5 intercollegiate men's teams and 5 intercollegiate women's teams that compete in the [[National Junior College Athletic Association | NCJAA]], Division III<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/athletics/</ref>. The men's teams include baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis.
