Indian Head, Maryland
Indian Head is a town located in Charles County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,422. It has long been the site of a naval base specializing in gun and rocket propellants. The name of the base has varied over the years from Naval Propellant Plant, to Naval Ordnance Station, to the present Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC/IH). Advanced research in energetics takes place at NSWC/IH. NSWC/IH is the successor organization to the Naval Ordnance Laboratory. The name Indian Head is believed to derive from the general shape of the peninsula, Corwallis Neck, that comprises the naval base.

Indian Head is located at 38°35'52" North, 77°9'25" West (38.597781, -77.156926)[1].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²). 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
