The Board of Education of Charles County is composed of seven members elected to represent and serve the educational needs and interests of Charles County. They provide direction for and establish educational policy governing Charles County Public Schools. Board Members also have final authority over budgets, curriculum, personnel appointments, capital improvements and land acquisition.

Board Members are elected at-large by the county's voting residents. They each serve four-year terms. The student Board Member serves a one-year term with the Board representing student viewpoints and cast an opinion vote on most actions taken by the Board. Board Members appoint the Superintendent of Schools to manage day-to-day operations of the school system. The Superintendent also serves as secretary-treasurer and is a nonvoting Board Member.
