In September 1958, Charles County Junior College, the predecessor to today's CSM, commenced evening at La Plata High School<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/50th/past/</ref>. The college commenced an apprenticeship program in 1960 <ref>http://www.csmd.edu/about/history.html</ref>.
In 1968, Charles County Community College began construction of the ''Career Education and Administration Building'' on what is now its main campus in [[La Plata, Maryland]]<ref>http://www.csmd.edu/about/history.html</ref>.
